PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
